The Plan

The plan is to retire in seven years (2018) and sail around Australia in the footsteps of Captain James Cook (1770) and Mathew Flinders (1801-1803).

Although I will rely on modern charts and sailing guides, I have obtained some charts from 1790 of the east coast as mapped by James Cook and will use them along with a book about his ship HMB Endeavour by Ray Parkin (IBSN 0522850936). The first part of the book details the construction, rigging and sail plans, layout and provisioning for Endeavour's voyage around the world.

The second part is a record of her voyage from New Zealand and up the east coast of Australia. It was compiled from the records from the voyage including: the Ship's Log, James Cook (Captain), Joseph Banks (Naturalist), Sydney Parkinson (Botanical Artist), Zachary Hicks (1st Lieutenant), John Gore (2nd Lieutenant), Robert Molyneux (Master), Rich Pickersgill (Master's Mate) and William Monkhouse (Surgeon).

I have yet to obtain details of Mathew Flinders' circumnavigation of Australia, but I have time. And, after I complete my circumnavigation - the world?????

Although this is the plan today and the destination may change, the desire to set sail will not.
